In the summer of 2022, I (Brittany) was preparing to move to Tampa, Florida on a student visa. My apartment in Calgary was filled with boxes, and I was selling off little pieces of my life before leaving. Among them was a glowing salt lamp I had listed on Facebook Marketplace. That’s when Spencer walked into my life.

When he came to pick it up, he smiled and asked if I would like to get a coffee. I said yes, and that simple moment became the beginning of something we never could have imagined.

As the weeks passed, we grew inseparable. While I was busy planning my move, Spencer gave me a kind of comfort and trust I had never known. When delays with my passport left me in limbo and my lease ran out, he opened his home to me, and in those days together our hearts fell harder than ever.

But time was not on our side. Once my passport arrived, we faced the inevitable goodbye neither of us wanted to make. With my car packed full of belongings, I drove across Canada and down into the United States, carrying his love with me. Spencer never let the distance win. He called me every day, video chatted late into the night, and even flew across the border just to hold me close again. Each reunion reminded us that what we had was rare, real, and worth every mile.

After nearly eight months, I realized that the path I thought I was meant to take was not the one I truly wanted. My heart already knew where home was, with Spencer. So I packed up once more and made one of the longest and most exciting drives of my life back to Calgary, back to him.

From the moment I returned, we knew this was where our story was always meant to lead. Spencer found us our first apartment, and together we began building a life full of love, adventure, and unwavering support.

Three years later, we continue to write our story side by side, grateful for every twist of fate that brought us here.

And to think, it all began with a salt lamp. Now, we cannot wait to begin our next chapter as husband and wife!
